Zanzibar Showreel
Ten years of award winning shorts.Hereafter
An apartment block stands empty. The inhabitants have gone. Their abandoned possessions and discarded furnishings find new liberty. However, freedom soon gives way to purposelessness and decline.
The collaboration for 'here after' grew out of a shared interest in disused urban space. This became the basis for experimnt with the physicality of the Shangan's block of derelict floors. Using a mix of real time and animated footage the artists recorded items left behind by former residents: an array of mattresses, an out dated chesterfield, an armchair, lace curtains, shelves, a computer monitor, dishes, carpeting, books, papers and other debris. They worked with Super 8 and 16mm black and white reversal film and shot using only available light.
